High School Science Bowl: Saturday, February 22, 2025
Middle School Science Bowl: Saturday, March 1, 2025
Location
The Western Pennsylvania Regional Science Bowl is held at the Community College of Allegheny County – South Campus in West Mifflin, PA.
WPA Science Bowl Eligibility Requirements
Schools must be from Western Pennsylvania. Western PA is defined as the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Cambria, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Somerset, Venango, Washington, and Westmoreland
Team Registration & Approval Guidelines
High School: The competition is limited to 32 teams. First teams will be accepted and notified by email. Up to 2 teams per school may register.
Middle School: The competition is limited to 24 teams. First teams will be accepted and notified by email. Up to 3 teams per school may register.
October 7th – Registration Opens at Noon
Coaches submit PREREGISTRATION for their schools without having to identify the students who will be on their team(s). The Regional Coordinator will approve the PREREGISTRATION if there is space. An approved PREREGISTRATION secures at least one spot for a school.
Pre-Registration Period
Once the PREREGISTRATION is approved, coaches should begin building their teams online. Coaches will have until 11/25/24 to add co-coaches, enter student data, and collect electronic consent forms for TEAM ONE.
Deadline to Submit Full Registration Including All Forms & Student Info
In order to SUBMIT a team registration, a signed “Parental Consent and Media Release Form” must be submitted for each team member – these forms are to be signed electronically by the parents/guardians. If the coach does not submit the TEAM ONE registration BEFORE November 25, 2024, the school loses its reserved space.
First Teams Will Be Approved
Regional Coordinators will begin approving TEAM ONE submissions on Monday, November 25.
When Can I Register a Second & Third Team?
Coaches may work on completing the submission process for the 2nd/3rd teams (MS only) any time after the PREREGISTRATION is approved. However, TEAM TWOs will not be approved before December 9, 2024. TEAM TWOs will be approved to participate only if coaches have uploaded all required forms. If all TEAM TWOs cannot be approved due to space limitations, the Regional Coordinator will use a DOE-approved random selection process for approval. TEAM THREEs (MS only) will not be approved before December 16, 2024. TEAM THREEs will be approved to participate only if coaches have uploaded all required forms. If all TEAM THREEs cannot be approved due to space limitations, the Regional Coordinator will use a DOE-approved random selection process for approval.
